The Great Britain’s Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has made a significant announcement regarding the appointment of their new chairman. Former William Hill chief, Roger Devlin, has been appointed by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport, Lisa Nandy, to take over the role.

Anne Lambert, who has been serving as the HBLB chairman since the passing of Paul Darling in August 2024, will be stepping down from her position to make way for Roger Devlin. Aside from his roles at William Hill and Gamesys, Devlin has also been the chairman of Persimmon Homes, a prominent housebuilding company, since 2018. His previous experience includes serving as the chairman of hotel and pub company Marston’s, Porthaven, and broadcast provider SIS Live.

Devlin’s connection to the sport of horse racing goes beyond his new role as the HBLB chairman. He is also a horse racing owner, with horses trained by Anthony Honeyball and William Muir.
