Belgium Implements New Measures to Regulate Gambling Market
Belgium has been taking proactive steps to protect consumers and limit the influence of offshore gambling companies in the country. The Belgian Gaming Commission (KSC) has commissioned a study by DataSynergy to assess the impact of recent player-centric measures on the market.
Impact of Raising Minimum Gambling Age
One of the key changes introduced was raising the minimum gambling age from 18 to 21 years old starting from September 1, 2024. The study focused on how this change has affected the market and whether it has discouraged players from using unlicensed offshore websites.
The study involved 1,001 respondents aged between 18 and 30. It revealed that 44% of participants recognized at least one offshore gambling brand, highlighting the market’s presence.
